First, let me introduce myself. I am Roberto Fernandez Larsson and I am the founder and CEO of Agents Press. I am now an entrepreneur in my second career (or is it third?).
I have a doctorate degree in the biological sciences and was a bench scientist and faculty in academia for many years. There I had the opportunity to be exposed to the internet when it only existed in universities and the military, long before it was in the domain of the general public.
I quickly got interested in how the internet worked. Websites were simple in those days, using only text. There were graphic browsers early on but most people did not have the capability of graphics directly in their computers. If you wanted to show a picture or photo you had to present it as a link. Users had to click on the link to download the picture to their computers. Then, they had to use some graphics program to open the file and see the picture. Also, they needed a graphics card in their computers for this to happen. We have come a long way.
I have been designing websites on an ad hoc basis for over 20 years. Over a decade ago, a real estate agent I know asked me if I could build her a website. I said yes and I asked her if she currently had a website or if this would be her first. She said, “Yes, I have two websites and I don’t even remember the passwords to get in to them. “In time, I heard several similar stories and learned that many real estate agents were not getting what they wanted from their websites.

The second reason you need a website is to generate and capture leads. You do this through search engine marketing (SEM). There are basically two ways you can do SEM.
Search engine optimization (SEO) is a free method of SEM that uses a variety of techniques to help search engines understand what your website and web content are about so they can deliver them to web searchers. Techniques include things like using titles, keywords and descriptions in a website and in the Meta tags of pages posts and pictures, providing relevant content on the topic and linking to and from quality online resources.
Pay per click (PPC) or paid search marketing advertising involves paying to have search engines display your website offer in or alongside search results. The most obvious example is Google’s Adwords program which will display your ad at the top or right side of the search results page (looks like an organic search result but shows a very small “Ad” logo at the left of the link). Other types of PPC marketing exist in social media, such as Facebook Ads and Twitter Ads. In PPC advertising, you pay each time someone clicks on your offer.
